It’s really amazing how the Lord has kept us up until the end of the year and we are confident about how He will keep us beyond the year. As I was having a prayer time in course of last week I began to brood on how Solomon was able to have what was beyond him and so blessed by everything any man could possess in riches, influence and wisdom.
It is the end of the year and it is usually prevalent that everyone begins to look at how far they have gone. In a period as this, the rush to achieve things is usually on the increase. However, I discovered from the place of prayer what it is exactly that you need to have all that you want as we all hope for a very wonderful New Year.
Solomon was a young man fathered by the great King David. He came in at a latter part of the life of David and the circumstance surrounding the union of his mother and father would have seem to man as almost inappropriate but God found Solomon as a man to be blessed. His blessing wasn’t as a result of the things he had done or was able to do but there was a prophecy hanging which he came under.
He grew up to become the man for the throne after David. As soon as he got access to the throne, he was faced with adversity from his brother who believed he should not be the one to ascend the throne. He had victory over all of these. He followed his father’s footsteps, honouring God and ensuring he does everything in line with the precedence laid by his father.
So, on a fateful day, having made sacrifices to the Lord, the Lord appeared to him asking that he make a request for whatever he wants which will be granted. Solomon was a king at this time; hence, there was virtually nothing he didn’t have as it concerns wealth, though there was space for more. He went ahead to ask for the wisdom to rule the people of God. This is the point; he knew what exactly to ask that will answer to every other thing there is. As God saw a man who was interested in what He, God, was interested in, nothing could stop Solomon from being superfluously blessed.
It wasn’t about Solomon’s non-interest in riches or his enemies head, it was about asking for what God was actually delighted about. God loved Israel and this was the reason He made David a king over Israel.
“David now realized why the Lord had made him the king and blessed his kingdom so greatly- it was because God wanted to pour out his kindness on Israel, his chosen people” 2Sam5:12
The interest of God is actually His people and Solomon somehow got into that and it opened the door for every other thing. One thing leads to the other. Solomon had spent time in fellowship, sacrificing to God and all. In the course all of these process, he had been able to tap into the mind of God. It wasn’t a period of asking, it was just as though communing with God and that gave him the knowledge of the right thing to ask that made the whole of the difference. So, you see that when he began to move away from that lifestyle of communion, his fall was imminent.
This was the exact picture Jesus was painting to Martha when Mary sat at his feet to learn. Even though Martha was trying to see to Jesus’ welfare, there is always one thing that satisfies every other need and that secret is with staying with the Lord to understand what exactly that one thing is for you. It wasn’t wrong to serve Jesus food but at that time what delighted His heart was to have them sit and He feeds them. At that point all they needed answer to would be provided.
There is that one thing that leads to everything for every man and that one thing is usually what is in the heart of the Father in relation to your life. It’d be profitable if you conserve your energy in the place of prayers more to hearing what He has for you than spending hours praying what you want of him. When you lay hold on that one thing, you become a sight to behold.
Spend this period communing than asking and then you will get to know what to ask and by then your turnaround will come with speed.
Do you get this?
