Heaven is not your home!

I was invited to teach at a meeting and the topic given to me was about acquiring strength for the journey. Obviously, the journey being referred to here is the journey of faith. I began to look at this topic to get exactly what the Lord would have me say to His people. As I searched my spirit on this, I got what was really amazing to me and it’s a way out of seeing the Christian faith as a tedious, tiring and almost impossible race.

So the first thing that the Lord would have me make clear to the people and which I am also passing across to you this week is what exactly the destination of this journey of faith is. This question comes up because there is no journey without a destination.

I then ask you too, where is the destination of your Christian journey? I guess you’d say heaven. Looking back at the beginning, God created man and gave man all that could make man a “god” on earth. Man had all the powers and authority to act in His capacity here on earth.  There was nothing like eventually going to heaven to be with God as a place of final rest or actualization. It was even God who took time visiting man in his domain. Man had to be on earth and all that man needed to do and be was to be in God. The destination of the journey was to be in God. This was what all of the instructions given to man was to serve; to keep them in God. And that was the most amazing place they could be. In that state they were exactly like God.

It was because they were in God Adam could name all the animals and God was satisfied with all, not because Adam had a knowledge of animals. When man is in God, He can be at rest on what is going on where man occupies. Eventually, man began to try to get to where he already was. The place of highest honor that leads to actually being God is where man already occupied but the devil confused Eve to believing there was still a place they could be that will make them become like God. They began to pursue a destination that does not literally exist which ended the glorious reign of man in Eden.

The same way Adam and Eve lost it while trying to make a destination that they already attained thereby missing out on the true agenda of God, many people have missed out on what the real destination of this journey of faith is for every believer. The problem with missing out on the destination of the journey is that it gets you strained and frustrated. You will be susceptible to the devices of the devil thinking you are being hardworking for God.  The destination of this journey is not heaven but GLORY- being one with God!

This was exactly what Adam and Eve enjoyed; the Glory of God. They were carrying this and all other things responded to them. Glory is becoming one with God. They lost it after the fall, the relationship between man and God was broken and that was what God was looking for a man to help restore. Jesus Christ came and was able to restore this. The purpose of Jesus’ death on the cross isn’t to ensure He gets people who will be on their way to heaven after they die; it was to restore Glory to man, that perfect beauty of being one with God. And as a believer this is the destination of your journey; to stay in God daily which invariable means you are already in heaven not until you die the physical death.

“ I have given them the glory you gave me- the glorious unity of being one, as we are-I in them and you in me, all being perfected into one- so that the world will know you sent me and will understand that you love them as much as you love me”  John 17: 22-23

So, trying to ensure you live a life that will make you rapturable someday should death come only puts you under undue pressure that is not God’s will for your life. Heaven is not your home, God is your home and having this is having heaven already. Your mindset then should shift from a distant place called heaven to a closer destination call God in your spirit.

As you go about your trade, work, school, or any form of activity you are involved in, be so conscious of the fact that you are in God and that is what drives the result you desire. Don’t be a victim like Adam and Eve, knowing full well you are already in the best place- in God- and not trying to get to a distant place called heaven would make you stay in the Garden (heaven) eventually.
