I was in a meeting yesterday where the preacher began to talk about inheritance and it got at me so hard. I began to see how much we miss because we don’t really take advantage of the things that have been made available to us.
This week’s dose is going to bring you to a consciousness of all that has been made available to you and how to come out of struggling with a number of things.
Anyone who is a citizen of a kingdom has access to all that is available in that kingdom. Let’s say you were born in Nigeria. By the reason of being born there, you have rights to all of the things that are available to citizens of the country. Let’s drill it down to family level. When a father gives birth to a child, that child has a portion of inheritance in all that the father owns not because the child had to do some work for it but because the child was born into that family.
Have you heard of those described to have come from the royal family? They didn’t do anything to be royal; all that happened to them to warrant such a beautiful title was “birth”.
Look at the account of the prodigal son; his father had a kingdom and there were two sons. One of the sons even without the death of the father demanded for his own share of the father’s wealth. The father obliged him because as a son he has an inheritance from all that his father had. His disposition and character wasn’t the point.
The issue was that he had a right to the father’s inheritance by reason of birth. Even when he had to go lavish all of the inheritance which was actually his, the father still welcomed him back because he is a son. If inheritance were to be a product of having done so good enough, this young man had no right to claiming any inheritance with the father. And the most shocking of it all was when the father accepted him back to still being a part of the kingdom.
Since Jesus came to this world to die for the sin of mankind, there was an establishment of a kingdom and the kingdom has things embedded in it that those who are citizens have full access to. The kingdom of God is the kingdom of Christ. This is where the will of God is done. You’d see that Jesus’ messages were basically about calling people into the kingdom as He understood so well the concept of the kingdom. When a man becomes a citizen of the kingdom is when such a man can claim the rights and privileges in that kingdom.
“For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink, but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost” Rom 14:17
These are things that are found in this new kingdom that Christ has brought us into- righteousness, peace and joy.
When you miss out on righteousness, peace becomes very scarce and expression of joy cannot be present. These are the kind of currency spent in this kingdom which is of Christ. So, as one who has come to partake of this kingdom, it is not a matter of how well you do, you are righteous; not how much you labour on protection, peace is yours and not how much of good things you try to gather, joy naturally springs forth from you.
This is your inheritance in Christ. This is the kingdom. So, when you are faced with any situation that seems to be against the righteousness of God, you tell yourself I have an inheritance in Christ: I am righteousness. This means you don’t need to struggle to do righteousness; it is what your father handed over to you. It is a kingdom life.
This is same with situations that threaten your peace and joy It is not correct for you to struggle to have peace and joy; you don’t work for them, you take them as it is the dividend of life in the kingdom you are now.. These things are just known and through the knowledge of it you raise a standard against the devil. So, you just look at the things that have threatened your peace and laugh over it knowing peace is just your inheritance; you don’t struggle to have it. Remember Jesus saying the peace He gives is not as the world gives? It is a kingdom life.
Now, it is clearer why Paul even though he was in the prison would say rejoice. It was a matter of inheritance not of emotional intelligence. There are inheritances in Christ. They are not what you train to have; you have them and many more other benefits of this kingdom.
As you go this week, can you just declare this affirmation: “Righteousness, peace and joy are my inheritance in the Lord! I do righteousness, I have peace and joy fills my heart always”
Enjoy your week and search the Scriptures to know more of your inheritance. Claim them.
