Mr. Ben & Mrs. Ruth

I know how tough it is for many people out there as a result of the effect of the Covid-19 pandemic. It could really be hard seeing everything change before your very eyes. At the moment, some are scared of losing their jobs, marriage, health and mind. It becomes more frustrating when it looks as though God is not making your request a priority despite how much you have cried unto him to intervene.

Let me share a story with you.

There was a prominent man of God in town referred to as minister Godswill. He just finished a powerful crusade around town where a man was healed from being possessed of a wicked demon. No one wanted to have anything to do with this man who was possessed and seeing Minister Godswill pray for and healed him blew everyone away. So, this made his ministry become more prominent around town.

Mr. Ben was a leader in the community. He was earning a very good pay and had twelve years’ experience as a senior consultant to a government agency. He was always speaking at conferences and at senior executive programs. Suddenly there was a serious problem within the organization where he worked; a file got missing and the implication was withdrawal of his license and this would mean an end to his career.

He began to apply all of the professional advice he got from his friends and senior colleagues. All was to no avail. He was almost getting into depression before he remembered there was a minister who God has been using to do mighty miracles. So, he looked for Minister Godswill to come hold a session with his team as that seems to be the only way out.  But time was of essence as the decision whether he lost his career for life would be made in few hours.

Immediately he got to the house of Minister Godswill explaining the issue, the minister decided to follow him to the office to pray with his team.

As they were on their way out, one of the minister’s assistant made him understand there were quite a number of people waiting outside to see the minister. As the minister stepped out, they all thronged him. There was a particular woman, Mrs. Ruth, who had lost her job and been applying everywhere with no positive outcome for the past 12 years. She was in serious debt having used fake recruitment agencies that had collected her money with no job to deliver. She was there believing she was going to get a miracle if only she could just have a feel of the Minister and she did. And miraculously, she received a call there from one of the prestigious organization in town that they had been expecting her in the last few months having sent her a mail. After the call, she checked her spam mail and there was her appointment letter.

Somehow, minister Godswill knew there was someone who had received from God miraculously. He told his associates he could sense someone just got an answer from among those who thronged him before he could enter the car. His associates wondered, since there were too many people there. But the woman spoke up not being able to contain her joy. She had waited for this for twelve years. Mr. Ben on the other hand was already furious. Time was ticking and he could lose his job. The career he had built for twelve years.

As this conversation was still on, Mr. Ben got a call from the office, “we are sorry sir, it is too late. Your career is dead, don’t disturb the minister” was the word from the caller. The decision had been made. Mr. Ben’s face was filled with pain, fear and sadness. Immediately, minister Godswill said to him “Don’t be afraid, just trust Jesus”.

On getting there, other staff members who were connected to Mr. Ben’s office were already packing their belongings and weeping knowing fully well, their work had ended. The minister requested to go into the room alone with Mr. Ben and three ministers who came with him. He prayed. At that moment, a call came in from the headquarters that a certain woman who they had sent a mail to but didn’t reply in the last three months finally picked her call that day and the Managing Partner had decided to reinstate Mr. Ben as the problem seem to be because of the absence of the additional hand he had always asked for.  That was how the death sentence on his career was reversed even though it looked to be late.

God knows every phase you are going through or will go through. He could collapse twelve years in one minute. Don’t be afraid of the death of your marriage, career, health, business; life is in you, nothing in His hands dies. When Jesus steps in, nothing is ever late. Are you afraid of losing your job? Worried about getting another job having been laid off? Are you losing your mind because it all looks as though all is dead? Just as the minister said “Don’t be afraid, just trust Jesus”.

PS: This story was culled and literarily framed from the book of Mark 5:22-43. Mr. Ben represents Jairus; Mrs. Ruth, the woman with the issue of blood and Minister Godswill, Jesus.
