WALKING IN THE SPIRIT 2

My dear friend, I trust you are well and prepared to take a personal review of the first quarter of the year? You need to do that often to see how best you can improve yourself in all areas.

So, I was expecting you to ask me a question about what I shared with you last week. You should send me a dangerous seed for being the one helping you with the further question to drive clarity. (That was a joke but I won’t say no to a dangerous seed, anyway…😀)

If you missed last week’s post, kindly go back to read it here.

I explained how walking in the Spirit is walking in the fruit that is of the Spirit. This means walking in love, joy, peace forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. One question that should come to mind then should be, “can an unbeliever walk in the Spirit?” I am sure you must have seen unbelievers who are so kind, show goodness and have self-control. So, if that's all walking in the Spirit is, does that not mean they also do? How do we then explain this?

“For it is written that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman. But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh, but he of the freewoman was by promise” Gal 4:22

Paul was using this to explain how what makes a thing of the Spirit is not just because the value of the thing is gotten but because the thing was spoken of by the Father- Promise. Abraham had a son (fruit) from Hagar, who was described as the bondwoman, and also had a son (fruit) from Sarah, who was described as the freewoman.

You would see above that both were fruits (sons) but not both are of the Spirit. In the same way, an unbeliever could demonstrate fruits but the source is what validates the identity. If it is not of the promise, it is of the flesh.

An unbeliever is outside of the promise of God, so, whatever goodness and love comes forth from such is as “Ishamel” coming forth from Abraham, it can exist like the child of promise and even have semblance because they give the same feeling but never can that be same. One, (the son of the flesh) will only inherit gifts (applause) but the promised Son will inherit the blessing (reproducing after its kind). God commanding the love that you emit as a saved man is what makes it a walk in the Spirit. God has commanded you the moment you accepted the gift of salvation. Hallelujah.

God commands the love of a saved man, self righteousness commands the goodness of an unsaved man. So, if the reason you are being faithful is to ensure your name is held in high esteem and not as a representative of the kingdom you belong to, you have only walked in the flesh (Ishmael). Joseph said, how would I do this and sin against my God? The man was walking in the Spirit.

Do you see the great advantage you have? You are the only one who has authentic access to walking in the Spirit. Why won’t you then stay away from all forms of bitterness, anger, strife, uncleanness, and all its cousins?

Let me know if this is well understood.
