Reality in Contest with Faith.
Text: John 6:1-15
Today, we live in a world o reality where people dwell in their 'comfort zone' and prefer to take the 'calculated risk'.
In its simplest definition, REALITY could be said to be the true state of things, or problems that actually exist. CONTEST, in itself refers to a struggle for supremacy to attain a position of power. while FAITH, is the complete confidence/trust in a person, view, doctrines or teachings. in essence, it is a belief that is not based on proof.
As students/prospective students, the spate of unemployment/ unlikelihood of gainful employment after graduation is becoming a thing of worry. similarly, insecurity and inconsistncy in government policies creates a worrying impression in the heart of investors. The truth here is that reality creates in us an impression that everything is impossible, or atleast very difficult. However, the good news is that God wants to do more than we can imagine! perhaps there is no greater truth than that ''with man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible (matthew 19:26).
Hebrew 11:1 says "now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen". Faith is a substance. that is, it is real. they do exist, they are not just seen. Faith takes you out of your logic/reasoning to completely rest in the power of God.
examples of people who disregarded reality and work in faith...
1.Abraham (gen 17,21,22). biologically at age 100 it is impossible for a couple to conceive a child at such an old age.
after the promise child was born, Abraham against all odds defiled the 'reality test' when he was tempted to sacriffice his only son, Isaac whom he loved. Abraham by faith launched out as instructed by God, and when he was confronted with the 'reality question' by his beloved son (Isaac), Abraham's response was "my son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering". woah! what a great faith.
2.Elijah and the widow of Zarephath (I King 17). by faith, d woman reversed reality (eatin her last meal with her child and die) into living and eating for many days, years.
3.Jesus.(John 6:1-15). against the reality as observed by Philip, Jesus fed the great multitude that came to him with the 'feasible' five loaves.of bread and the two small fishes.
what faith does...(John 6:5-14)
1.true faith doesnt deny physical truth; it just refuses to let the physical truth dominate the spiritual truth v5-9.
2.faith is so powerful to calm a worrying soul.v10
3. faith give thanks even in the presence of lack. v11
4.faith displays authencity f the messenger's calling.v14
5. without faith, it is impossible to please God (heb 11:6)
stop dwelling in the palace of reality and begin to look at the author and finisher of ur faith

ReplyDeleteMr Femi Akintoye, thanks for your comment.
DeleteFaith does not deny d physical truth. nevertheless, it refuses to let d physical truth dominate d spiritual truth...it is of a fact that we ar surrounded wt many challenges dt demands human reasoning/much permutation. this does not stop us from folding our harms doing nothing...what faith does here is dt it makes us reason beyond d physical into complete trust in d power of God to do the possible out of that impossible situation...remember, faith without work is dead (james2:26).
