LIKE MOSES

I was reading the book of Joshua and I was only seeing the person of Christ and what He has done for us. Moses was a man who had done great stuff for the people of Israel. He had come to face everything to ensure the Israelites made it to the promised land. He had an opportunity to throw everything away and save himself but he fought for the same people making sure they were not blotted out of God’s book.

He was the man who was the voice of God. The weight of the works Moses did was eternal in the scheme of things.

The same set of people Moses fought for would also make his bid to enter the promised land, not a reality.

God instructed Moses to “speak to the rock” to draw water. The Prophet instead strikes the rock twice and water flows out abundantly. The community probably felt like the mission was accomplished, but this was a big mistake.

This was a disobedience to the instruction of God. This meant Moses had gone off the lane of God and

his story could have been that of gloom and condemnation when God announced to him that he wouldn’t see the promised land he was supposed to lead the people into.

“Because of you the Lord became angry with me also and said, “You shall not enter it, either. But your assistant, Joshua son of Nun, will enter it. Encourage him, because he will lead Israel to inherit it.” Deut 1:37-38

Some of us are in the same place Moses was and we feel the end has come because we had made a mistake in an area. The Devil echoes these errors and we feel God’s perspective of who we are is synonymous to his judgement. His judgment is according to His justice system. However, his perspective is according to what He has called us.

Even though Moses had disobeyed and was found culpable, I thought that the testimony of God would have changed about him. Moses died and didn’t enter the promised land. It ended with the memory of what he had done. I was surprised by God’s account of Moses to his successor, Joshua:

“Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them—to the Israelites” Joshua 1:2

Even in death, the perspective of God hasn’t changed. Moses remained God’s servant! This is what Christ has come to do. Your errors do not change God’s perspective of you (even though we don’t stay in the error). Like Moses, He is seeing His Servant; but you must see as He sees to live the “Joshua” life (Promise fulfillment).

Don’t allow your mistakes define you. Allow God’s grace have its full course in you. You are still God’s own.
