His place of rest!

Rest is the desire and pursuit of every living being after a long work. Also men desire rest at a latter part of life journey most importantly in our everyday life. Both believers and unbelievers desire to have a life filled with this. But, logic preaches that man cannot experience rest until death which I think goes down well with a popular saying that "the day of death is the day of rest". It is great joy to let you know there is an assurance of a rest for us as believers. The scripture describes it as His place of rest(Heb4vs1). But, is it when we get to heaven?

His place of rest means a state where man never struggles for anything as he relies solely on God for everything. A place where man need not to worry, be anxious or in distress. If this is the place of rest, is it actually a realistic phenomenon? I know you desire it but think it is never possible.

"For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, and God did rest the seventh day from all his works" Heb4vs4

The word rest was mentioned after the work of creation was completed in the book of Genesis. God entered into rest from thenceforth. Adam then entered into His rest alongside his wife, Eve. They need not work, worry or struggle. They were absolutely in His rest- what a beautiful life (Note: that wasn't in heaven, they were on earth). Now, when Adam missed it, they were sent out of His rest. What exactly infuriated God? They believed the report of the serpent as against that which He gave them. Since this occurence, God was not happy with the state of man, He sought how get man back into His rest.

The Old Testament is a shadow of the new order. God promised after the fall to bring the children of Israel into His rest (in relation to the land of Canaan). This is a perfect image of what God wanted for man, He wanted His rest existing here on earth as Adam and Eve enjoyed it. Adam could enter His rest because God through the word had worked, he just came in into His rest, but lost it to unbelief.

"Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after thesame example of unbelief" Heb4v11

All through the period after Adam, man tried to enter His rest but couldn't. No man can merit His rest through works. Jesus then came back again-He is the word spoken in the beginning- He who launched Adam into His rest before the loss. He embarked on a redemption work to ensure man gets back into His rest which is the original plan(Gen1v26).

"So there is a full complete rest still waiting for the people of God. Christ has already entered there. He is resting from his work, just as God did after creation" Heb4v9-10 (The Living Bible)

Haven't you imagined how all the laws (do's and donts) you try to keep have not launched you into His rest? You keep having guilt locked around your heart which gives you unrest. You are always concerned God could be mad at you, if you are doing wrong or right, so you conclude its in death man will find rest. You can't enter His rest banking on works, His grace brings His rest. In His grace is His work revealed, your works are useless.

"Come unto me,all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest" Matt11v28

That scripture isn't poetry. It is life filled with words of assurance "I will give you rest". If you are not in His rest, it means you still believe in your works (do's and donts). Works won't get you there, it only frustrates.
Works prevented the Israelites from entering there. His place of rest is a place of confidence in the saving grace of Jesus.

As you go this week, embrace grace, believe in His works. Go about your daily activity trusting Him who is able to keep you. enjoy in His place of rest.

Be Innovated.

  2. We can enjoy rest with the grace of God through obedience to divine instructions. Simon Peter obeyed his master in Luke 5 and he got the result.

    Shalom

  3. @Olawale that's the power of grace. It took grace to bring the ability to obey. Grace makes one live above the do's and don't while you have fulfiled them. Simon had not entered rest there, he did after Grace gave up His life and he could now boldly lead other disciples as the Holyghost fell upon them. Obedience does not bring grace, grace guarantee obedience.
