Universally
in the ancient world, the ring (also called signet ring) comes from the Hebrew
word “Chotham” and the Greek word “Sphragis” and both literally means seal. It
served as an instrument of authority used by the king, a form of approval- when
the king hands the ring over to an individual, whatever the individual does
becomes binding.
The
ring was the authority but there is something interesting to observe about
this; the ring wasn’t just what was used, it was used alongside with “the
name”. Whoever is given the ring to use mentions the name of the king and
thereafter brings forth the ring which is a proof of the authenticity of a
decree that assumes from the king. Any fool could go about using the king’s
name without been sent by the king- the ring checkmates this.
Haman
had sought how to destroy the Jews because of Mordecai’s refusal to bow to him.
He was able to speak with the king, requesting for the execution of all the
Jews in the land. The king granted his request. Even though Haman was a recognized
official of the kingdom, he still needed the king’s ring in order to make the
execution proposal against the Jews binding.
“…In the name of
King Ahasuerus was it written and sealed with the king’s ring…”Est3v12
The
Lord came to the rescue of Mordecai and the Jewish nation as a whole, the pit
Haman dug for the execution of Mordecai became his own last abode, he was
executed there. The Lord favoured Esther before the King but the decree to
destroy the Jews remained because it was binding through the power of the
king’s ring. Esther went to seek how this decree will be overturned; she
appealed to the king.
“Then
the king Ahasuerus said unto Esther the queen and to Mordecai the Jew. Behold,
I have given Esther the house of Haman, and him they have hanged upon the
gallows, because he laid his hand upon the Jew. Write ye also for the Jews, as
it liketh you, in the King’s name, and seal it with the King’s ring: for the
writing which is written in the king’s name and sealed with the king’s ring may
no man reverse” Est8v7-8
The
name and the ring both carry power but the name might not be of much effect as
the ring. The ring empowers the name. Now, there is a change in the order of
possession. The king was the one who only possessed the ring in the old system,
but now it is no longer so. The ring was duplicated in Christ. Christ knew only
kings could possess the ring so he made those who come to Him kings (Rev1v6).
Yes!
There has been an issue that bothers you, you think about it and look for help.
You know the name of Jesus works, but why does it seem not working yet? Jesus
had given power to cast out demons to His disciples. Not quite long a man
brought his son who had an evil spirit, only for these brothers to pray in the
most holy name and nothing happened. Why can’t we do this? They asked Jesus…
“And Jesus said
unto them, Because of your unbelief…” Matt17v20
The
ring is the belief in the “Supreme king’s name”. They didn’t have the king’s
ring, they went only with His name.
Interestingly,
it is no longer the king’s ring, it is now your ring. Christ gave it to you
since you submitted to Him. For you, there is no need going and coming back
with the ring. He trusts you with it because now the king is you. Won’t you
take authority in your domain?
Yes!
On that issue, you know His name and it seems not working, I ask, where is your
ring? Your belief in the name fuels the name to action. The ring is the seal. The seal means it is
done, even when it seems you are not seeing it, that’s what seal means. You don’t
doubt the king’s seal.
“verily, verily,
I say unto you, He that believeth on me,… and whatsoever ye shall ask in my
name that will I do…” John14v12-13
Take
charge as a king. You don’t need to go to the valley or the mountain, you know
the name works, but the ring is the seal. Where is your ring?
I
dare you to exercise this as you commence this week over that issue and you
will see how powerful the ring could make the name.
