I was talking with a friend in course of the week and we got to how people make a statement: “Make God your foundation”. This usually come up when you are at a point of starting something major like a project, relationship or ministry in form of a counsel. As simple as that word is, it could also come out as ambiguous. However, it is a very profound statement in any journey of life you want to embark on.
What exactly does it mean to make God your foundation?
The word foundation is used to represent the base of a
building construction. The foundation is usually a determinant of what is being
laid afterwards on the building. So the depth of the foundation determines the
kind of building that can be erected. This means that the foundation is the
thrust of the house. It determines how far or how much can be done afterwards.
Invariably, the foundation is where the builder puts his trust to ensure every
other things works well. So a very strong alternative for foundation in this
context would be trust.
So, making God your foundation means where you put your
trust. It is not as deep as looking for anything that is spectacular. It just
means where your heart lies as it concerns what you are planning to do.
A man who has not come to know Christ cannot be counseled in
that manner. It is inside of Christ that a man has made God His foundation.
Paul began to explain that there is no other foundation that can be laid aside
Christ. Christ is the foundation of our expressions in God. He is the
foundation of the building that a believer is. So, making God your foundation
is when your trust is in the abilities of God as expressed in Christ to you.
Foundation is about trust in what has been laid. It is about
faith. When you are getting into anything and your trust is in the ability of
Christ in you, you are making God your foundation.
Now, you have the faith of Christ and this is the foundation
you have in God. Go out boldly in the ability of Christ and you are already
making God your foundation.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not on your own
understanding…” Prov 3:5a
Do have an amazing week ahead.
